Capitol Hill Ocean Week June 3-5, 2008

Creature Features

Elephant SealGrey whales begin their northern migration from Mexico, up along the west coast on their way to Alaska , traveling through the Channel Islands, Gulf of the Farallones, and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries.

Returning migratory shorebirds visit Georgia's coastal and offshore waters including Gray's Reef Sanctuary to feed on the plentiful bait fish building up their energy reserves to continue their journey northward to their nesting grounds.

Scalloped hammerhead and spotted eagle ray schools peak during this month in the Flower Garden Banks Sanctuary.

Swim the Santa Barbara Channel and Make a Difference

Annual Santa Barbara Channel Relay Swim – Date Change! September 12-13, 2008

The Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Assoc. will host the 5th Annual Santa Barbara Channel Relay Swim. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation in support of ocean conservation in the Channel Islands. Whether you swim, kayak, or cheer from shore, be sure to join the fun and sign-up now!

The Foundation offers several ways for you to make a difference, by becoming a Member, making a contribution, or selecting a gift that gives back through our Sanctuary Store.

Volunteers Needed for the 2008 Humpback Whale Count!

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary needs volunteers to count whales and record behaviors from over 65 shore sites around the Hawaiian islands on January 26, February 23, and March 29.  For information and registration click here.
