NMSF Issues Letter to White House Council on Environmental Quality Regarding Marine Spatial Planning
The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation once again applauds President Obama and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force for such early attention on developing a national policy for the stewardship of ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes and now, for specifically addressing marine spatial planning. Recently, the Foundation issued a letter to the White House Council on Environmental Quality highlighting key characteristics and models of marine spatial planning for consideration in developing a framework, as called for in the Presidential Memorandum of June 12, 2009.
The NMSF previously submitted separate comments (available here) on the White House Interagency Task Force's Interim Report, which highlighted the National Marine Sanctuary System as a powerful guide for the development and implementation of a National Ocean Policy.
