Florida Keys Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Honors for U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
November 11, 2005Key West, FL – U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18) will receive the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation Stewardship Award during a gala tribute to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. World renowned marine life photographer and NMSF Trustee Bob Talbot will serve as keynote speaker during the awards dinner on November 12th. In addition, the evening will kick off a regional public service announcement campaign featuring the new Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center’s Sea Star campaign.
Monitor Celebrates 30th Anniversary
October 26, 2005Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Warner and U.S. Congressman Herb Bateman (posthumously) received National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) awards during a gala tribute dinner, Oct. 25th, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Monitor National Marine Sanctuary. Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy Admiral James D. Watkins, USN (Ret.) provided keynote remarks for the event, which underscored the historic value of the nation’s oldest national marine sanctuary and the conservation of its maritime heritage artifacts. In addition, the evening kicked off a public service announcement campaign to conserve the artifacts of the USS Monitor.

Channel Islands Celebrates 25th Anniversary
October 8, 2005Santa Barbara, CA – U.S. Congresswoman Lois Capps, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, marine business pioneer Captain Fred Benko, and Santa Barbara civic leaders Barry and Jean Schuyler were honored with National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) awards during a gala tribute dinner to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. World renowned ocean explorer and NMSF Trustee Jean-Michel Cousteau served as Master of Ceremonies for the gala, October 7th, one of several recent events marking the sanctuary’s silver anniversary.
Thunder Bay Celebrates 5th Anniversary
September 16, 2005Alpena, MI – U.S. Senator Carl Levin and Sanctuary volunteer Betty Krueger will be honored with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) 2005 Stewardship Award, September 17th, during a tribute gala to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. World renowned ocean explorer and NMSF Trustee Dr. Robert Ballard will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event, and Congressman Bart Stupak will present the City of Alpena with the Preserve America Certificate as part of the White House initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. State Representative Matthew Gillard is expected to participate in the events as well.
