‘Making a Difference Together.’ It’s a well-worn phrase, but few words could better describe the National marine Sanctuary Foundation’s activities and accomplishments over the past year. Whether it be launching a major Public Service Announcement campaign on marine debris employing Walt Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ characters Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian, convening our annual Capitol Hill Ocean Week policy symposium, or supporting research that helped transform the shipping lanes in Boston harbor, the work of your national marine Sanctuary Foundation truly has made a difference.
Our partners are as wide-ranging and varied as the program activities and outreach efforts we support. From the halls of corporate institutions as well-known and respected as the Walt Disney Company to the decks of research vessels in sanctuaries around the country, from the shores of the nation’s newest marine national monument to the corridors of the United States Congress, the Foundation is working to make a difference in marine conservation.
There are many programs to explore in this Annual Report many examples of how individual participation has made a lasting difference. In the pages to come you will come to better know hot only our programs, but the Trustees, volunteers and staff who make them happen. As we go forward, we welcome several new Trustees to the Foundation’s board. At the same time, we benefit from the guidance of long-standing board members who now continue their services as Trustees Emeriti.
I hope you enjoy this report, and take inspiration from it. Through our personal involvement together in service of a common cause, together we are creating and protecting a legacy that will define our planet for generations to come. Together, we are indeed making a difference. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,

Lori Arguelles
